Arthrocentesis and Joint Injections

Arthrocentesis

Arthrocentesis, also known as joint aspiration, is a medical procedure that involves using a needle and syringe to remove fluid from a joint. It is commonly performed to diagnose or treat joint conditions such as gout, pseudogout, septic arthritis, or other inflammatory conditions by analyzing the synovial fluid. Arthrocentesis relieves joint swelling and pain, while also allowing corticosteroids to be administered directly into the joint space.

Joint Injection

Joint injections involve the administration of corticosteroids directly into the joint space to treat conditions causing joint pain and inflammation such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and bursitis. These injections relieve chronic joint pain not relieved by other treatments.

Both arthrocentesis and joint injections are valuable procedures for diagnosing and managing joint disorders, providing both relief and crucial diagnostic information with minimal risk when performed correctly.
